Last year I started to teach tabletweaving. And I have had great succes by telling the students about the basic rules of tablet weaving - and then let them start with a band with only 2 threads per tablet and where the pattern is made of lines only (take a view at my website www.brikvaevning.dk to se the patterns under the link "Mønstre" you can see the patterns Baltic 1 and 2-trådet Mammen)
In my basic rules I explain the connection between S-threaded/Z threaded tablet and the turning direction, and then my pupils weave after the pattern.
They have all told me, that they understand it a lot better after having heard about the "rules" and then veryfied it by weaving.
Then I teached how to do your own patterns - and some of them succeded in doing that.
In the next class (with some of the same pupils) we worked with missed hole.
In sept. we
are trying again - this time with 3/1 broken twill - doubble faces. So in that way we take it step by step.
That works great for me.
