List-Unsubscribe: >>>Does anyone have anything they want to submit to TWIST this issue?<<< Maybe I could do an article on using paper ribbon for both warp and weft. I am using the same paper ribbon that I use for the cords for my ply-split baskets, and I always wondered how it would look if I used it for TW. My experiments are part of a collaboration with a woodworker to create an art lamp (an "illuminated sculpture") for an exhibition here in Portland this fall. So far I have woven two samples with the ends threaded through a small scrap of a 6-dent reed, using every other dent. So there are only three tablets per inch (12 ends), which makes my sample with 12 tablets 4 inches wide, I used the color Kraft in two adjacent holes and Oatmeal in the other two... subtle, natural colors, with just enough difference in value to see a pattern. Wow -- I think the effect is fabulous! I have tried leno, the double-faced weave, a modified basket weave and warp twining, and all look great. Most astonishing to me (so far) is the texture and pattern that appear with warp twining turned the classic 4F, 4B. It just has no resemblence to what I normally expect to see. This is the result of the combination of flat, somewhat stiff ribbon, spaced-out warp in which weft shows prominently, and the much larger than normal size of warp and weft. I will be at the TWIST meeting at Convergence and also Complex Weavers, and will bring the samples with me. Also will bring some samples of my experiments in doing tablet weaving with wire.
