I've recently changed to FF as my target platform ( I build intranet
webapps so i don't care about browser compatibility as long as I
choose the right browser ) only to find out that the html elements in
it are even uglier and stiffer to design .

Considering that the trend nowdays seems to be , moving all form
driven apps to the Web , I find it hilarious that the W3C , FF guys
and even Microsoft have been unable to provide us with proper and easy
functionality to customize form elements . Ironically you can make an
input box and a button look good , but then u're out of luck when
trying to fit checkboxes and selects into the theme .

I personally think that AJAX is another enabling technology for this .
While some might look at it , as a way to save on pipe space and
improove user experience , I see it a step further in allowing web
apps to be built as easy as swing apps in a very component oriented
way , where you should never worry about the js , or the css or the
html that goes into your component ( the tacos tree is a good example
of course ) . Ideally you just say : I want this component , I want it
to appear here , and i want it to use this datasource ... ( thanks
tacos again for taking positive steps towards this approach ) .

Now with all that said , It would make sense to have a way of
customizing the look of Form elements , because if not , we're still
stuck with stock looks , and sort of unable of making a form look good
.

Anywais , during my ramblings about this , someone on the Dojo ml
pointed out to me the existance of this set of components :
http://www.badboy.ro/articles/2005-07-23/index.php .

Allthough i''ve had no time to try them out , they look interesting .
Where i'm going with this is ... I think Tacos should integrate this
or have something similar , to allow more flexibility for the web
developers .

I have no time at all for them untill early next year as I've got some
deadlines , but once i'm over those i'll be looking to integrate this
code onto a personal library of reusable tapestry components . Should
we talk to the guy and ask for permision to integrate this into tacos
? Or would you guys ever consider integrating something similar ? It
looks like Dojo has nothing of the sort , but i think it should .

It would be great if you could then do something like :

<span jwcid="myCheckbox" stylesheet="myCheckboxStyle.css"/> and get a
tapestry or tacos form element that does not look stockish and with
bad style .

What do you think ? Or will you also end up contradiccting me and
saying that ultimatelly web forms should be ugly because W3C hasn't
gotten arround to it yet . :)
