I think that's an excellent idea. I've only seen things like it recently on turbotax.com's online tax filing system. If dojo doesn't have it they probably have enough infrastructure in place to allow adding it in not being that hard of a task. Google it ;)

Now, I know there's a MaskEdit component in Tapestry-Contrib. I'd like
to ask the Dojo/other _javascript_ experts the following:

1) Is there a reliable implementation in a pure _javascript_ project of a
masked text-field? (the ones that let you specify something like
##/##/#### and force the user to enter a valid date)

2) How feasible is to use a render contribution based approach to
masking? I'm thinking of something like "eventListener":

<span jwcid="@TextField" mask="literal:##/##/####" />

or

<span jwcid="@Autocomplete" mask="literal:##-####-####" />

or even more:

<span jwcid="@Autocomplete" mask="masks:dateMask" />

And that would bind the necessary _javascript_ events (using Dojo's event
system of course ;)) to the component. I think this approach could be
used for validation and conversions too.

Thoughts ?
