Actually, the escaping text is on the server side. Dojo never sees the "\," that are in the demos. The tricky part is the Hivemind PropertyUtils.configureProperties() method, which in turn uses the ClassAdapter class to set the properties (and in my version of Hivemind, it escapes them first). One could duplicate all of that, I guess, too, but since this is beta, anyway...
