Most ambulance stations here usually aren't joined to a hospital,
patient transport is another matter but they usually aren't used for
emergencies. Some stations aren't even close to a hospital, like this
one near me, it's about 6km from the nearest hospital:

Well, that's another reason to tag them separately, right? So we can
have amenity=hospital and emergency=ambulance_station

I just don't see an ambulance/fire station as an emergency. I mean, if you fall down and injure yourself you don't try & get to the station you 'phone up & get an ambulance to come to you.

I see them as amenities & will continue to tag them as such. It's seems wrong to have fire as amenity & ambulance as emergency.

The word emergency is also an adjective & which is subjective & as such should be avoided in the use of tags. Just look at historic to see what a mess adjectives bring.
