I'll actually support that. For now, the best approcah I've found is to: - map "how car goes" (substitute "car" vith your favourite transport) with highway=* lines, never polygons; - map "where the road is" with area:highway polygons (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:area:highway) You can have a look at the result at: http://openstreetmap.by/?zoom=17&lat=55.77682&lon=37.58551&lang=en&via=37.580903,55.774461;37.588305,55.778311&vehicle=car note that routing lines actually follow the way the driver should move, and that large areas of asphalt are shown in their exact boundaries.
