Like in your shopping mall example you would likely draw a polygon around it
and tag it name=Stanford U. and amenity=university. A solution for special
cases might be the site relation.
I think the bigger problem arises for stuff that is inside this polygon but NOT
part of the university (maybe not in this particular case, but these situations
occur). How do we exclude a POI from an enclosing polygon (maybe also in
combination with tags like layer or building level, which add some pseudo 3D
but are not automatically recognized by standard routines like STWithin, so
evaluating might need to take them additionally in account).
