yes, but it's not a given that this is only one way in OSM, when you split the 
way it will be the same wp reference on several parts (very common for rivers). 
Another case are citywalls, around here I've lots of pieces and don't like so 
much putting the Wikipedia tag (and other common tags) on all of them, sort of 
collector object would be nice in these cases (similarly the great Chinese 
wall), or not (relations are not categories). What do you think?
