Artificial is what I have seen used and what I use myself, mainly for
soccer and (field) hockey. Although there are different types, the
effect is the same - artificial grass. For hockey many pitches are
"wet" whereas soccer pitches are "dry", some based on rubber granules,
others on sand.
Would you agree that "artificial" in combination with "sport" probably
tells you enough?
As I said, I feel that's to all-encompassing, including concrete, bitmac
etc.
The brand/make I hear the most is "Astroturf" which I think was one of
the earliest suppliers. It could be on its way to becoming a "hoover"
i.e. a brand name becoming so commonplace that it is adopted into the
language.
Astroturf, as well, as being a trademark* is slightly different, as it's
piled & bedded with sand/water.
* Rotavator - not only a trademark, but also palindromic

Hi
I was looking for an appropriate tag for an artificial sports pitch
surface. The type that's constructed from a combination of
rubber/acrylic/silicon.
The wiki lists 'DecoTurf' I think this tag should definitely be
discouraged. It's a registered trademark of a company's specific
product, which is not that widely known or used.
'Artificial' is to generic. 'Hardcourt' seems better but only 16
uses. Any ideas?
