You're almost saying what I feel would really be the right thing to do:
deprecate all scripting elements and scripting variables, saying that
"sorry, but it didn't work out as we hoped and just leads to too many
weird, unspecified cases due to interaction of scriptlet code and the
generated by the container to be supported."
I'm (mostly) joking; I know we can't do this now. But I wish we had
focused solely on action elements from the beginning. And only if
absolutely necessary, found a less flexible but predictable way to
include raw Java code in a page.
