Did you try to use:
        request.getHeader("Referer")
to get where they came from?

First of all, if you want to ask questions about Struts, ask them on the "struts-user" list. You'll get better answers.

I don't know what you mean by "user context", so I can't compare them.

Note that when using Struts, a good practice is to have all links go to Actions, not directly to JSP pages. That is, your URLs in your pages would likely be to ".do" urls, which are handled by the Action class.

You could probably figure out several ways to encode "where they came from". You could store a "last page" in the session. You could put a hidden field on each page. The latter would allow you to use a request-scope bean, as opposed to a session-scoped bean.
