Errr... this might sound stupid, but why don't you just use <c:choose> with
one <c:when> and one <c:otherwise>?

In fact, I currently am using JSTL for the condition checking in the case. A
custom tag carries over value to JSTL and preform a condition checking. I
thought using custom tag in this case may improve performance.
