Well, that's a general solution for making too-long urls shorter.  But 
it means you're 1) depending on that service remaining up to keep the 
(indirect) cap valid, and 2) trusting the the URL-shortening service 
with potentially private caps, and 3) reducing the search space for a 
third party who wants to brute-force search for caps.
