Hello all!

Here is our first update on Least Authority’s work for the Tahoe-LAFS
Software Foundation. This will cover the end of January and the beginning
of February 2024.

The dev team members working on this project so far are:

Chris Wood

Florian Sesser

Shae Erisson

We also have some team members contributing minimal hours working on
administrative and project coordination efforts:

Sveta Shuranova

Lauri Hmel

Katharina Gaube

And of course our CEO, Liz Steininger, will be involved in the project and
continue her administrative support with the Tahoe-LAFS Software Foundation.

During this time frame some of our time was spent getting organized,
coordinating with Open Collective about project finance administration and
project planning, along with continuing the transition from Aspiration.

In addition to attending Tahoe-LAFS dev meetings and doing some research,
the team was able to work on the following:

   -

Recovery Phrases: Initial research and experimentation began towards a
Rust library with accompanying Python bindings (to be published soon; name
TBD) for deriving RSA keys from BIP-39 mnemonic phrases. This is intended
to be used/extended for deriving Tahoe-LAFS mutable capabilities (since
Tahoe-LAFS mutables are based on RSA keys) with the goal of allowing users
   to recover a Tahoe-LAFS mutable/directory capability from a 12 word phrase
   in the future.

As more of the dev team are able to ramp up and begin contributing to this
project, we will begin working on more areas of the project, including
mobile and tahoe-s3.

We look forward to working with the Tahoe-LAFS community on this project!
