So I can see a "don't put shares on this server" checkbox being useful,
and I can see H being useful.

In Brian's home grid with 3, setting H to 3 seems like the right answer;
he might end up at H=4/N=5 next month.

For the rest, had I Copious Spare Time, I would concentrate on
gathering the data that would drive the more complex decisions and
making it available in the CLI/WUI. 

It may be simpler to expose data and offer to run user-written python
functions as a start, rather than try to write generic functions.
