I'm calling this a UX design issue, and flagged the ticket as such. In the revamped Greeter mockups, I see a green "checked/valid" icon, and a red "cancel/invalid" one, so I'll assume that the people working on that front have this topic in mind, and have reparented this ticket to be on their radar. Same for the caps lock thing (#5917).
