VeraCrypt Team: > Hi, Hi again Mounir,

A dedicated > commercial license is available from IDRIX. We want Tails to follow the Debian Free Software Guidelines [1] and these require no "discrimination against fields of endeavor" (aka, 1st free software freedom: unlimited use for any purpose). [1]: https://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines Limiting the use of VeraCrypt Mounter to non-commercial purposes would prevent us from including it in Debian and would lower the freedom people have when using Tails (eg. if someone wanted to sell pre-installed Tails USB sticks). So we came up with a solution that doesn't require specific trademark licensing agreement with IDRIX: - Change the icon to not reuse any part of the VeraCrypt icon. - Rename our application to "Unlock VeraCrypt Volumes". - Add the disclaimer that you requested. You will be able to see all this in action in Tails 3.9, to be released tomorrow. > - There should be a clear indication to users that the software > provided by Tails, "VeraCrypt Mounter" and their derivatives are not > linked in any way to the VeraCrypt project or to IDRIX, and that all > support requests should be addressed to the authors of "Tails", > "VeraCrypt Mounter" and their derivatives. We'll do that too. Thanks Mounir for helping us navigate this issue! -- sajolida _______________________________________________ Tails-dev mailing list [email protected] https://mailman.boum.org/listinfo/tails-dev To unsubscribe from this list, send an empty email to [email protected].
