Hello everyone, First of all, I know that Tails wasn't developed for Macs, and that its developers aren't Mac experts. I have read all of the Tails documentation (multiple times, as a matter of fact). Anyway, I have tried everything I can think of to get Tails to work from a USB on my Mac (OS X 10.7.5 - Lion). So far to no avail.
I follow the instructions listed on the "Manual installation using Mac" page to the letter. My computer gives me no errors whatsoever during the process of this; everything goes well. Key verification works, etc. Similarly, I had no problems installing rEFInd - and this utility works as well (when I restart my computer the rEFInd boot menu appears as it should). However, it is unable to boot the Tails USB. It is reading the USB correctly, but it says "Boot from Legacy OS from Tails 0.22.1 - 2." (What on earth is legacy OS?). When I click on it, it simply takes me to a black screen with the text "No boot device found" and I am forced to turn off my computer and turn it back on again. Does anybody have a clue about this? The two things I am going to try (though unfortunately due to time constraints I won't be able to try until tomorrow): -Rename the tails iso file to get rid of the i386-0.22.1-2 stuff. Searching the mailing list archives one user reported fixing a problem with tails on mac that way, though his problem did not appear to be the same as mine. -Changing the format of the USB. Any idea what the format should be? The formatting for these things kind of confuses me. When I create a new partition, I am given three options: GUID Partition Table, Apple Partition Map, and Master Boot Record. However, when I click on an existing partition, the drop-down menu of formats is: Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive,Journaled), MS-DOS (FAT), ExFAT, and ISO 9660 (Rockridge). Currently, it lists my USB drive as ISO 9660. I suspect it has something to do with the formatting, but I haven't been able to find clear answers as to what I should try. Thanks! -Ryan
