Have been trying to get Tails .23 and Tails 1.0 to properly boot up and get online the last several months to no avail. Both versions boot correctly, but Ice Weasel has been blocked from getting online at multiple wifi locations both password protected and not.
Had suspected for sometime the Gateway BIOS was blocking Tails despite the fact Secure Boot and UEFI had indeed been disabled. Boot order properly changed. In the 6-4-14 edition of Tor Weekly news an announcement of new Tails 1.1 features included: “Testers can also try out the new UEFI support, which enables Tails to boot on recent hardware and on Macs.” Do you techs think Tails 1.1 will solve the blocking problem? The following is the next to last email sent to Tails support May 15. It describes the problems this user has had the last several months trying to get Tails fully operational and online: “Successfully burned Tails 1.0 to DVD last night. A few minutes ago and in a wifi hotspot, booted up and immediately noticed an earlier message on the upper right desktop was missing. The earlier message on .23 read something to the effect that wifi was available and click on it to gain Internet access. When I did so on the earlier .23 OS, nothing happened. This time the message was not even on the desktop. “As with the earlier OS edition, proceeded to then click on the Ice Weasel icon and received the same Tor is not ready error message as happened before with .23. Clicked on “proceed anyway”, again received the same earlier message received on .23: “The proxy server is refusing connections. Ice Weasel is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.” Then, clicked on Unsafe Web Browser and received the same error message reported earlier. “Clearly, a connectivity problem remains with a wireless router that does properly work when Tails is not used. Since Tails is successfully used elsewhere by many others on a variety of platforms since launch years ago, again, I ask whether there could be a BIOS problem with the 2013 Gateway lap top that prevents Tails from accessing the Internet? Or, do you still think the router is at fault? Blocking Tails? “Either way, Tails developers must do something to correct the problem. … Can't believe I'm the only one with this issue. – If so, others may have given up in frustration. Have tried using Tails via other wifi hotspot routers including one that has no security or password requirement, and received the same error messages. “Certainly, open to any suggestions you may have. Will patiently wait until this issue is somehow resolved. As always, remain grateful for your efforts and the rest of the development team at Tails. -- Tails and Tor are essential, absolutely critical to all of us who use the Internet.” ____________________________________________________________ Protect your computer files with professional cloud backup.
