With the recent arrests of darkmarket operators the takedown procedure often involves bullrushing the operator while their computer is open, should this tactic be employed against a tails users there is one of three things they can do:
* Remove USB key * Move cursor over to shutdown icon and select shutdown * Press and hold power button for 5 seconds on computer (or pull cord if desktop) The problem with all three is that they are often inpractical in this situation to pull off in a timely manner, the operator has literally 3 seconds to do one of these coordinated tasks: * USB may have a tight fit or be too small to pull out easily * Moving the cursor to select two icons is a slow and coordinated task * Holding the shutdown key takes too long and enables the risk of the attacker performing a coldboot memread I advise that a key be assigned that upon pressing will automatically put tails into shutdown mode.
