from what I understood, there are a lot of different interfaces with
the same name...  I saw there
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2137075 that for some people
the 13.04 release of ubuntu fixed those driver issues while for others
with the same chipset, it broke everything... knowing that and the
fact that this chipset is discontinued, I doubt that it will be fully
supported by any distro one day...

maybe you could write a script, put it in your Persistent directory,
and lauch it manually after every boot ?
