When security is an issue isn't there something to be said for a
medium for moving data around that's eraseable in various ways with
various degrees of finality AND cheap enough for routine physical
destruction to be an option if desired?

Tails (Debian ...) sees a floppy drive or at least shows an icon for
one. It selects the device (light comes on) when an action is
requested -- like 'open,' by double clicking, etc. However it is
unable to tell that the device HAS a disk and responds with a 'no
medium' message.

I did, however, find this, which SEEMS to have the answer -- but in
Linux-ese.

I know where to find the command line, but the commands are rejected
-- 'permission denied.' I've no idea whose permission I might need --
it's my system.

I don't have time to make Linux a project. Either I can get Tails to
work for ordinary net surfing with a few hours of work -- actually
I've already got that in it due to another couple of problems that I
managed to get past -- or I can't, and perhaps I'll try again in
another couple of years. That means I'll have to ask a couple of
'Tails support for the non-Linux user'-type questions.

I appreciate any help you have time for on this.
