I am trying to use TAILS on a new laptop that has a high-DPI display, but
it's very difficult to do so when it's running at the native display
resolution (because everything is tiny). I would like to adjust the display
resolution, for example, by scaling it to 0.5 the native resolution.

I'm not actually interested in adjusting the DPI, because I assume that
would also require adjusting config at the application level. In other
words, I'm not worried about losing the "Retina experience" here.

Based on what I've discovered through some Google searches, the easiest way
to adjust the resolution would be through the use of the `xrandr` command,
but I couldn't get this to work for me. I received the error message,
"Failed to get size of gamma for output default".

Here is some additional info:

The graphics adapter is an Intel HD 4600.

When I view Applications > System Tools > Preferences > System Settings >
Displays, the only option is the full native resolution.

When I view Applications > System Tools > Preferences > System Settings >
Details > Overview, the value of "Graphics" is "Unknown".

When I view Applications > System Tools > Preferences > System Settings >
Details > Graphics, the value of "Driver" is "Unknown".

I'm not sure what the next steps would be. People with similar problems
have resolved them by adding custom config to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ or
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. But as I understand it, TAILS persistent dotfiles
functionality would require the config to be under the home directory. So
then I'm thinking about creating a custom boot script that writes a config
to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and restarts it...but that seems really ugly.
Plus, I have no idea how to actually do it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
