If you get an error message saying

"Device was not created using Tails USB installer"

It means the USB stick you installed Tails on and thus tried to create
a persistent volume onto was not created using Tails Installer. You
might have tried on a manually installed Tails:

In order to create a persistent volume, the only working method is
when Tails was installed using Tails Installer:
