Dear All,

I recently received this message, and was curious is anyone is already involved or planning to be? I am based out of SF, and would be willing to help from a distance.

Best,
Sarah

Hi all,

They guys at OSM & CloudMade should be interested in a Mapping Party
as well as a tutorial to the latest tools coming out of CloudMade
during FOSS4G2009 - they are doing impressive stuff:
http://developers.cloudmade.com/projects

Just note that mapping party is meant to be open to all - an informal
get together (with pre-registered interest) before or during the
conference and is not strictly a workshop tutorial.

I think the best approach for the mapping party is to email the Sarah
Manley who can help publicize the event and (I think) help organise
the logistics to some extent. I've cc'd Sarah - hope I'm not being
presumptuous o_O

Mark, do we have an OpenStreetMap submission?
I'm hopeful that they take a tutorial slot, which would take them outside
walking around the streets.
Has someone checked against the program for 2007, 2008 workshops and labs to determine whether there are other areas not covered? It would be good to
send a letter to these presenters saying something like:

"We notice that your project was represented at the 2008 conference. Will you, or someone else from your project be presenting a workshop at FOSS4G
2009?

Details are ..."

I didn't want to interrupt the fervour, but I'll fire out a quick summary
now.

So far we've got:
 10 Workshops
   2 PostGIS-ish
   2 MapServer
   1 MapFish
   1 OS Business
   1 GeoExt
   1 SEXTANTE
   1 OpenLayers
   1 GeoNetwork
 5 Tutorials
   1 MapFish
   1 GeoExt
   1 Community Schemas
   1 ILWIS
   1 Security Layer

So there are two things that are not well represented here, desktop
clients and tutorials. Word has it that there's a uDig workshop coming down the pipe. Jeff is chasing GRASS and QGIS, Simon is after MapGuide and FDO. Jody is prodding away for an OpenJUMP presenter. degree and GeoServer are
currently MIA.

What we really need are some clever use-casey tutorials that will show a single blob of functionality. The complex features Rob is offering is a good example, or the security layer by 52N. Something that builds upon
general knowledge. Any thoughts?

       Mark,
Tomorrow, Tuesday, can you please send a list of workshops and
tutorials that have been submitted, or are planned to be
submitted.
I expect we'd then be able to identify gaps, and chase specific
people of groups for a workshop.

If there are specific workshops that didn't go as well
previously, it would be good to note those now, so that we don't
       chase them.

   I see big gaps here:

   - no GRASS workshop submissions
   - no QGIS workshop submissions
   - no GeoServer workshop submissions
   - no MapGuide Open Source workshop submissions

(I usually have to chase after the GRASS and QGIS community every
year for submissions, and I'll do the same this year)
