Take photos? I don't have an iPhone, but I believe the iPhone will geotag photos with both location and compass direction. JOSM will open the photos as a new layer and when you click on a photo will display the direction as an arrow. Even without a compass direction, geotagged photos are still a good survey method.
I used to survey using a camera (Ricoh 500SE with GPS and compass), but now I use an Android phone and Vespucci (note - I'm one of the Vespucci developers). Have you looked at this page?: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Apple_iOS Regards, Andrew
