Hi Christpher I wouldn't add data from STRM in. On the hand it is easy to extract from SRTM itself (as you have seen), on the other hand, particularly for peaks, it is sure to be way off.
It just seem to be a tad bit silly that the government dataset doesn't include elevation with the dataset in the first place.
