The Australian Tagging Guidelines says to tag them highway=path, foot=yes. I think surface=unpaved or dirt or ground should be included too.
Yup. I've long argued that objectively verifiable tags, like surface, are very useful. Yeah I recon that would be good, and have the "surface" hyperlinked back to the global wiki. I think it would also be good in the section for Urban Footpaths and Cycleways where it mentions highway=footway.
