Using the alt_name tag seems a good idea to me. I know the state route has been via Jersey/George since at least the latest round of talks began to replace the Hornsby station pedestrian overpass. Somewhere in a council report it stated RMS (then RTA?) had agreed to pay 1/3 of the cost as it was over their road. (Knowing this also makes me feel maybe I pay too much attention local politics :-) )
