I have examined the change sets in NSW.

One of the new mappers is 'good', others .. 'could do better'.
Mostly harmless .. would be a good summary ... a couple of basic mistakes and some basic improvements. I have left most of the edits alone to see if they will make changes to improve things.

One I have edited out as it removed a road, replacing it with a foot path.

I have left comments for most new users ... giving information, and questioning a few things ... like a house (possibly their home) being made into a park

The cycleway routing should take note of footways that have the tag bicycle=yes ... Most people don't notice the bicycle signs as they are not using a bicycle. So adding the bicycle=yes tag is simple and does not cause conflict/edit wars.

To me a cycle way should be principally used by cyclists, most of these are shared paths and the majority might be pedestrians.

As for the new mappers .. welcome, provided these things are real, very welcome.

Apart from the addition of numerous poorly edited parks, numerous footways (even with no construction or visible path on the ground), water features, etc by the followers of this children's game, I am also dismayed to see that wide shared cement ways that most would have previously marked as cycleways to aid cycle routing are now being changed to footways. Most of my osm editing time is taken up trying to fix all these poor edits. Hopefully all these new editors gain experience and become a valued editing force.

Good news people. There seems to have been a surge in the number of new mappers in Australia:

and they all seem to be *very* interested in making sure every park is on the map. Rivers and meadows are quite popular too.
