Thanks everybody for suggestions, but couldn't get any of them to work unfortunately :-(
Even found a suggestion for using Potlatch but no good there either. Finished up deleting the bike path & some of the edge nodes of the residential area, which let me move things around to their proper positions, then redo the deleted bits. Thanks Graeme
