Would it be a fair statement to say that gas mining areas are all

    wider area?

TBMK, the actual wells are only a fairly small area eg https://live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.net.au/3a3f53c56360c165093afac7abaa9714?impolicy=wcms_crop_resize&cropH=573&cropW=1022&xPos=2&yPos=0&width=862&height=485 <https://live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.net.au/3a3f53c56360c165093afac7abaa9714?impolicy=wcms_crop_resize&cropH=573&cropW=1022&xPos=2&yPos=0&width=862&height=485>, which would be private (although the whole property they're in the middle of will also be private)

The concern is that with many service roads crossing between
public roads, routing engines may take one down through well areas.

I would think that the track leading to the well would be private access

Farm tracks too could be access=private.

While the well head can be a small area, the actual mining lease can be large.   The large area could be mapped with layer=-1,-2,-3,-4 or -5. But what source are you going to use for the area?
