I always download a gmapsupp.img-file from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nlor http://extract.bbbike.org/ that I place immediately on my Garmin (Dakota 10). The first one is tile based, the second one allows you to cut out any piece and in much more different styles. So I have no need to BaseCamp to make the map smaller.
