The quadrant concept was implemented in 1982. There has been development for many years in the NE quadrant of the city, north of Highway 16 a couple miles north of Sherwood Park. There has been a lot of area within the SW quadrant of the city as well, but now with the southerly expansion past the Henday, some people are starting to realize that there is a quadrant system in place. Ellerslie Road has been labeled as 9th Ave SW for many years... Just don't go looking for a SE quadrant of the city, since the city ends at Meridian Street down near Quadrant Avenue (BTW The only section of Quadrant Ave that exists can be found just off of 199 St.). http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=53.43309&lon=-113.6678&zoom=15&layers=B000FTF Edmonton exists in only the SW, NW, and NE quadrants for now. It will take a while to expand beyond the eastern boundary, especially with Strathcona County itching to build new urban nodes in the area. (I know the area wasn't selected just recently, but there would be a fight if Edmonton wanted to annex in the area for expansion... I guarantee it!) The center of the quadrant system in Edmonton would be on the City Limit, just west of the Bretona area label in this shot. talk-ca <[email protected]> I just added a point to the map database at the location.
