Hi all,Im pleased to announce that Beta v0.30 is now available to view and sample.
The sample OSM area is available here, so you can view the file with JOSM. http://sites.google.com/a/acrosscanadatrails.com/www/Home/osmcanvec_092c13_shpuclueletBC.zip and here is the latest rules.txt file http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=d2d8mrd_179gnhs54cw&hl=en I made a few changes, for example. point,CODE,2600010,canvec:CODE,2600010 point,CODE,2600010,canvec:generic_code,2600009 point,CODE,2600010,canvec:entity,Mining area - ( Zone d'extraction de minerai ) point,CODE,2600010,canvec:entity_definition,Area or site where minerals are extracted; including sand; broken rock; gravel; and clay. point,CODE,2600010,canvec:value,Mine underground operational - ( Mine souterraine opérationnelle ) point,CODE,2600010,canvec:value_definition:Mine,An excavation or tunnel in the earth from which mineral substances are extracted. point,CODE,2600010,canvec:value_definition:Underground,Under the surface of the earth. point,CODE,2600010,canvec:value_definition:Operational,Can be used or is in full operation. point,CODE,2600010,landuse,mining point,CODE,2600010,location,underground You can see that it looks closer to what the canvec catelogue has listed. So rather than weeding through the wiki, the definition of the tag is available in the data. With over 300 map features, having the original entity & value listed, it makes it easier for people to go down to the last 2 tags and change it where needed. The process for this import (IMO) will be slowly and steadily. .. I'd like to make sample areas for many parts of the country (as i did before) so people can go through the data and check and see what tags i used, and if they need to be changed. What i want to avoid is having to revert changes, if tagging errors are found. (hopefully they will be found before i start importing more) By working on it tile by tile, different users will be able to import each feature slowly and migrate the data with existing OSM data. We know that this (CanVec & GeoBase) data is not to over-right existing OSM data.. but to help out. The data is VERY basic, as you can see, and needs more tags and identifying features. . Ideally, this CanVec data will ONLY get imported to areas that have ALREADY been filled in with GeoBase Roads. .. So Im asking for feedback, is it a good idea to include the CanVec roads, so they can be used to trace where needed? Anyway, Im still working on minor tweaks, and corrections. Let me know if you want a sample area for where you are. Thanks, Sam Vekemans Across Canada Trails P.S. I also sent this message to GeoBase, as im wondering if and when the next update of the GeoBase/CanVec data will be, and what kind of changes to expect.
