I suspect that these are left over from the import where for portions of Alberta many intersections where not sharing nodes. That was fixed(as far as I know), but it is possible deleting many deletes of the unused nodes didn't go through. It should be possible to detect untagged nodes that aren't part of any way/relation that are older than a week and delete them.
