I had a look at the Toronto address point data yesterday. This shape file is NAD27 as well. When converted with shp-to-osm the location was off by about 100m when compared to OSM road data.
When converted to EPSG:4326 with ogr2ogr, then run through shp-to-osm, the data is closer, but still misaligned by about 12m.
