Hi, Here's 2 pics http://picasaweb.google.ca/lh/photo/INZ9u3Jpa-QK7JoRlo0ROQ?feat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.ca/lh/photo/9CkafINXc6_pEEa0sET6uA?feat=directlink
the with and without OSM data. As you can see, the south saskatchwan river is shown as a waterway=riverbank and further out it's just shown as a line. You can see that because this area is so small.. taken from the canMatrix2 file you can see that the campground & the airport and the river shows up. I just streatched it so that it lines up with the OSM data & also with the toporama map. I used the toporama map for fine-detailing the rivers, as these dont get in the way of the roads, and it helps make the map better. So in this case. the CanMatrix map helps as it lists the river names, and acts as a cross-check as it's really those features that are on the CanMatrix that are the 'most important'. Or rather, for most people looking a the map of Medicine Hat, they would like to see these basic features in there. The campground DOES exist, it's called 'wildrose campground'. And i should see a buch of GPS tracks around there (as i was their and traveled around in town for a couple of days on my rest-day. You can also see my tracks for cycling along the river cycle paths, i tried to get as accurate as i could. But in many cases, the GPS was off. But anyway, i'll add it to the wiki. And try to show that this infomation is fine to use. ... however, it should be really taken with a grain of salt for the accuracy. So for this area, i can fill it in some more. I can go back to my photos of the trip & see if i can point out map features to figure out ie (the surface of the paths) and relative positions of things.
