Hi all, For anyone in Northern Ontario (perhaps the Wawa area)? I have started actually just tracing over the GPX tracks that i created from the Land Information Ontario Trails dataset.
I know that the NRCan data is 'on its way', and will contain the trails file. However, this Trails data comes from Land Information Ontario. Where the Ontario Trails Council submits their data too. So all the trail groups in the province all submit their to this repository. Whats great about LIO is that thew data warehouse has the ability to create a DIFF file which lists all of the submissions since the last time i download the data. This one is from November 27th 2009, so it's still current. What i recommend is simply tracing the data, as it's needed. I need the data as some of these trails are part of the 'proposed National Hiking Trail' so they are of interest to me. :-) Im also taking a look at the local GPS tracks, as sometimes these trail have been hiked before. So this helps for accuracy. Anyway, i have included the .pdf listing what this dataset is all about, as well as a Garmin MapSource map (transparent overlay) showing all the trails in the province, as well as the .osm files. ... but i DONT RECOMMEND uploading these .osm file directly.. as it will interfer with what already exists. It's ALSO very speratic (the trails are not nicely grouped in local areas). So what i did was create a .gpx file and grouped all the .gpx tracks from Thunder Bay to Espanola. (465 tracks). collected from the 7 gpx files. and then use that file to trace over. (I also use the WMS layer from toporama) so then i trace the local rivers/water bodies so to give some reference to where it is :). Anyway, here's the link to the .zip file The shp2osm rules.txt files are also in there :) http://www.mediafire.com/file/yjntnuyznvz/LatestTrailsData.zip if anyone is interested in getting this section traced please let me know, then we can work collaboratively on it :-) BTW, the trail is called 'The Voyageur Hiking Trail'.. but that information is copyrighted (it's from Trans Canada Trail) and the http://www.voyageurtrail.ca/ ... so that information is copyrighted. So im just putting it in as 'highway=path'... and having 'attribution=Land Information Ontario" with the "note=needs to be varified with origional GPS tracks" Cheers, Sam Twitter: @Acrosscanada Blog: http://Acrosscanadatrails.blogspot.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/sam.vekemans Skype: samvekemans OpenStreetMap IRC: http://irc.openstreetmap.org @Acrosscanadatrails
