A while back I posted a note about a firm that was planning to offer high speed internet access on frequencies close to those used by the GPS system. In this there was a very real concern that this high speed internet system would cause grief for poorly designed/built GPS receivers. Well, here is an update on that:
http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/12/reports/gps/index.htm In summary good news for the GPS using community, this past week the US Federal Communication Commission has (as is their option), decided to veto that high speed internet system, out of concerns of what it could do to GPS receivers. I'm not sure if there is any sort of appeal process, but at least for now, every mapper, boater, hiker, and/or car owner with a GPS can rest easy.
