It's doable, but something that we really need to get fixed at the source
if the issue is still present in CanVec.

Given that I have code sitting around that could be modified, I could
probably
easily throw something together that handles the double-space changes.
Of course, none of this CanVec work is a substitute for actually going out
and surveying the names in the slices!
Absolutely true, but given the distances, and the amount of time
surveying takes, it might not be realistic. This proves that OSM
really needs contributors in at least every city and major towns.
