Aha!  An overpass query that searches that area for ways at a time in the past is:

https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/27hy

which finds

https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/213543462/history

which was added (by you I guess) in 2013 and deleted by https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Megaminx12 in https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/104477844 in May 2021. Maybe they surveyed it then and couldn't see anything on the ground?

I'd suggest adding a comment in the box at https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/104477844 and asking them about it.  They're still mapping, so there's a chance they'll see the message and reply to it.

Best Regards,

Andy

I notice that a trail I hike a couple times per year has disappeared from OSM.

Is it possible to find the deleted way somewhere (perhaps an archive); so I can put it back on map?

If you link to the area where it is, I'm sure that someone will be able to find out what happened.  If you go to https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=3/66.44/-117.70 and then zoom in to the place that it is missing from, and say when it was definitely there, we'll be able to find it.

Incidentally, the Canadian mailing list is a bit quiet these days - you'll see more Canadian discussions at https://community.openstreetmap.org/c/communities/ca/95 (login with your OSM ID).

Best Regards,

Andy
