Fyi ... there is a WMS set up for the GeoEye. Not sure of the status of other 
GeoEye tiling efforts? Any updates?

Yes, I did not see (or I missed) any official statement from GeoEye,
but if we permission then go ahead and publish the link to the
service, either to cache it somewhere or directly as WMS. All imagery
on the FTP is now available via WMS, native EPSG:4326.
