Why Tallinn is the best option: - low cost airlines (from London etc, see http://www.flylowcostairlines.org/low-cost-airlines/flights-to-city-tallinn.html - even more low cost airlines to Helsinki, scenic 1.5 hour boat trip from Tallinn http://www.flylowcostairlines.org/low-cost-airlines/flights-to-city-helsinki.html - cheap beer, accommodation and food - very nice medieval old town (UNESCO listed) - probably you have not been there yet - organized after-trip (Monday-Tuesday after conference) to the other Estonian nature highlights - Saaremaa island 2 days, one-day mapping tour to Naissaare island (just next to Tallinn) which is still full of soviet military remnants. Event itself: - Thursday - new workshop day with (nominally) paid workshops / trainings. Other days as usual (business Friday, Community weekend) Other events in town: - Tallinn is European Capital of Culture 2011, so many special events expected around there. http://kalender.tallinn2011.ee/en/ - The city is not yet fully mapped - there are still plenty of actual mapping opportunities!
