Hi Marco, Almost a year ago you were very helpful in providing some data about the Bridge to Nowhere, and I was wondering if you may be able to help again :-)
I am quite involved in a project called OpenStreetmap (www.openstreetmap.org) which, with many others, are engaged in an effort to map the United Kingdom and beyond, whilst making this available for others to freely re-use, please see http://www.openstreetmap.org for more information. Most of our data has come from surveying, and we have been avoiding deriving data from other sources unless we have specific permission, or they are out-of-copyright. For example, our road classification information has largely come from our observations of roadsigns. My question is if you have any data that the council could offer to the project? Glasgow is in quite an incomplete state, and anything would be useful. We can make use of data describing everything from amenity locations, building shapes to road networks, partial or incomplete. We are currently importing the TIGER dataset from the United States Census Bureau in order to map most of the US. A similar task was recently completed for the city of Osnabrück, and an overview is available at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Frida. Our data is licensed under the Creative Commons Sharealike Attribution License, which makes the data freely available to all. Our source data has to be made available under a similar license, be in the public domain, or out of copyright. Such options are discussed at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Legal_FAQ Is there anything from Glasgow District Council that can be contributed towards the community, or do you know the right people to ask? Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you Kyle _______________________________________________ Talk-GB mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk-gb
