If you are using JOSM, select one of the ways you want to pull away
from the road, also select the nodes that you want to move, then
press G to unglue. You will be left with just the new nodes selected
that you can drag all at once away from the road.
I've not been, but if JOSM has sorted the problem I'll give it a go ;)
