Nottingham successfully won a bid to host FOSS4G 2013 (big conference on Open Source Geo software which goes to different locations each year) That's 17th-21st September http://2013.foss4g.org
Steven Feldman is one of the main organisers of that. He said to me it would be great to have State Of The Map alongside, running before or after that conference at the same venue. We piggybacked on FOSS4G before in Denver of course. It's a good way to ensure a good turn-out and attract different people to learn more about OSM, but if we wanted it to be more "our own" conference, then having a lot of confused outsiders in the audience can detract from that slightly. Also Steven wasn't volunteering to help organise.
