Hi all,

I'm using OpenStreetMap data with a journey planner which works with GTFS data.
The software can match the ATCO Code (stop_id field in the GTFS) with OSM data.

However, upon investigation of data, I see a discrepancy of tagging between
National Rail stations and London Underground stations. To be specific:

- The tube station nodes are tagged with the station code in the Naptan dataset
(beginning with 940G).

- The National Rail station nodes are tagged with the boarding area code in the
Naptan dataset (in the format of 9100TIPLOC, while the station code is in the
format of 910GTIPLOC).

In addition, there are platform codes in the Naptan dataset for the tube, but
unfortunately it doesn't always map to a single platform, sometimes they can
represent a group of platforms for a single direction (such as
Harrow-on-the-Hill).

For National Rail, the Naptan documentation specifies that each platform should
have a code in the format like 9100FARNHAM1, where the digit suffix is the
platform number, but in the real dataset these don't exist, only the boarding
areas (like 9100FARNHAM) are included.

In particular, a station on different lines, like Clapham Junction, can have
multiple boarding area codes (starting with 9100), one for each TIPLOC, but it
only has one station code (starting with 910G using the primary TIPLOC).

Therefore I believe that the National Rail stations are mistagged and I believe
that they should be tagged in the same way like tube stations (with the station
node tagged with the station AtcoCode).

Can anyone comment on the above? In particular, where do the boarding area
codes (9100TIPLOC) go? How about the platforms themselves as well?

(In the GTFS dataset I'm using, I make up the platform codes according to the
way Naptan documentation says, in the format of 9100TIPLOC3, but of course they
are not real codes).

Thanks,
Michael
