Actually I was a couple of miles out of Arncliffe, or was it Darrowby before OSMand stopped telling me to turn around. More seriously I have found OSMand a very good navigation app over the years I have been using it. It did a great job of our epic Cherbourg to Santander trip. Avoid tolls is a great option in France as it avoids long boring stretches of Autoroute, but uses the free sections to avoid urban city roads which the avoid motorways option would give. Although my personal preference is rural secondary or primary.
